Shivani is a designer goldsmith passionate about researching, designing and hand constructing individual pieces of jewellery. Since graduating in 2005 with a 1st class Honours degree in Silversmithing, she has been selected to take part in a number of prestigious exhibitions and received awards from the Goldsmiths’ Company and the Arts Council amongst others. She now runs her own studio practice. Inspiration for designs evolved whilst travelling in India, America and southern Spain, studying the contrasting styles of ancient eastern and contemporary architecture. Constant visual observations of pattern and texture are reflected in the distinctive aesthetic within her work. Each piece is made by hand in various colours of gold and oxidised silver. The making process is focused on specific fusing techniques applied to achieve detailed pattern and contrast on the metals surface.
Shivani also has a passion for working with precious and semi precious gemstones. She sources unusual one-off pieces in unexpected cuts and vivid colours, often with strikingly attractive imperfections. Using the gemstone as a starting point, the design develops and takes it’s form through drawings and intricately carved paper sculptures.
Designs for individual pieces of jewellery have resulted in a continuously evolving range of one-off pieces and limited edition collections. Shivani aspires to learn more and continue producing skilled work that is unique in design and it’s approach to working with precious metals.
Shivani loves to design, make and work to commission.
